220 East

Davis Islands · new american, seafood, pizza

220 East sits on Davis Boulevard in the small village strip at the top of Davis Islands, and its own site calls it a locally owned American kitchen 24 years strong. The menu runs wider than most neighbourhood rooms: shrimp and grits, a hand-cut New York strip, pizzas including a dill-pickle one the site tells you to trust it on, and a weekend brunch with chicken and waffles. Its Cuban sandwich is built on Cuban bread from La Segunda, which it names on the menu. Several dishes are marked GF on the menu itself.

7th + Grove

Ybor City · southern, caribbean, guyanese

7th + Grove sits on East Seventh Avenue in Ybor City and describes itself as the flagship of the 7th + Grove Hospitality group. The cooking is Southern comfort food crossed with Guyanese flavours, served with what the site calls creatively crafted cocktails, and the room runs late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is one of the Ybor rooms Creative Loafing Tampa Bay lists among Tampa Bay's restaurants, and it leans into events... a Saturday day party with hookahs and small bites, NFL Sundays, private parties and catering.

Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.

Al's Finger Licking Good Bar-B-Que & Soul Food

Ybor City · $ · bbq, southern, soul food

Al's cooks Tennessee-style barbecue in Ybor City, dry-rubbed ribs smoked over wood with a tomato-based sauce, and it has won best barbecue in Tampa more times than anyone bothers to count. The food is family food in the literal sense, with dishes on the menu named for the people they came from ... Uncle John's smoked sausage, Aunt Nita's black eyed peas, Sparky's pulled pork, Mazie's serve-it-up yellow rice and chicken. The business started as a concession stand in 2003 and became a sit-down restaurant in 2009, and it now runs barbecue and soul food out of one address on East Seventh Avenue after folding the two shops together.

Midtown Tampa · italian, cuban, bakery, sandwiches

Alessi has been baking in Tampa since 1912, working from 'family recipes passed down through four generations'. It is a Sicilian bakery that grew up alongside the Cuban and Spanish bakeries of West Tampa and Ybor, and it sells both traditions ... Italian pastries and cannoli on one side, fresh Cuban bread and scachatta on the other, plus a deli counter, custom cake studio and rotisserie chicken. The business has moved into a single new building on West Cypress Street that puts the bakery, cake studio, deli and cafe 'under one roof'.

Bake'n Babes

Davis Islands · bakery, desserts

Bake'n Babes is the dessert counter on the Davis Islands village strip, a few doors from 220 East. It is built around oversized cookies, over-the-top milkshakes and a triple-layer item it has trademarked as the Sleazy Brownie. Flavours named on its own front page include Fruity Pebbles, Nutella-stuffed chocolate chip and plain chocolate chip. It stays open to 10 or 11 at night, which on Davis Islands makes it the after-dinner stop.

Bamboozle Channelside

Channel District · vietnamese, southeast asian

Bamboozle is the Vietnamese counter downtown office workers have used for lunch for years, now in the Channel District on 12th Street. The kitchen works banh mi, rice bowls and noodle plates and describes its own line of work as bamboozling customers into healthier living for over fourteen years. A second location, Bamboozle Heights, sits up N Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights.

Blind Tiger Cafe

Ybor City · $ · coffee, sandwiches, bakery

Blind Tiger is a Tampa coffee roaster with cafes around the city, roasting since 2014. The Ybor City room on East 7th Avenue is the one most visitors meet, and there are others in Seminole Heights on North Florida Avenue and in Westchase on Montague Street. Visit Tampa Bay lists it on its plant-based guide for the vegetarian sandwiches and vegan desserts that sit alongside the coffee, which makes it one of the few Tampa places open from half past seven in the morning with something for a vegan to eat.

Buddy Brew Coffee (Kennedy)

SoHo · coffee

Buddy Brew is Tampa's own specialty roaster and the Kennedy Boulevard cafe is its flagship. The Labrador retriever in the logo was a real dog called Buddy, who the company says kept watch over the small Diedrich roaster it used in its early days. It sums its position up as coffee that is not about edginess or snobbiness. There are now eight cafes across Tampa Bay, two more of them in this sector: Hyde Park Village on Snow Avenue and one on Bay to Bay Boulevard.

Cafe Hey

Tampa Heights · $ · sandwiches, coffee, breakfast

Cafe Hey is the small coffee and sandwich room on North Franklin Street that Tampa Heights has used for years, and Creative Loafing calls it a Tampa Heights staple. It runs a vegan brunch every Sunday until it sells out, which sits oddly and happily next to a menu of meaty sandwiches. Thursday night is open mic, and the bill is musicians, comedians, poets and whoever else signs up.

This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.

Chill Bros Scoop Shop

Downtown · $ · ice cream, dessert

Chill Bros makes handcrafted small-batch ice cream in Tampa and runs scoop shops around the city, including Water Street, Ybor City, South Howard Avenue, Bay to Bay Boulevard and a counter inside Armature Works. The brothers behind it keep a run of vegan flavours on the board alongside the dairy ones, made with oat milk and coconut cream rather than as an afterthought, which is why Visit Tampa Bay puts it on its plant-based list. The Water Street shop is a short walk from the Riverwalk and Sparkman Wharf.

Citrus Park Cafe

Citrus Park · cafe, sandwiches, coffee, cuban

Citrus Park Cafe is a small morning and lunch counter on Ehrlich Road whose whole identity is its address: it sits on the Upper Tampa Bay Trail, so its regulars arrive on bicycles. It pours Peet's coffee and makes custom subs, salads, Cuban sandwiches and smoothies, and it closes at 2:30pm. It is shut Monday and Tuesday, and it posts its holiday and vacation closures on the front page rather than leaving people to find out at the door.

Coco Lov

Palma Ceia · vegan desserts, ice cream, smoothies

Coco Lov is a family-run dessert shop on South MacDill built around coconut milk, dates and sea moss. The ice cream, cheesecakes, chocolate mousse, smoothies and bowls are plant-based, gluten-free and dairy-free, with no refined sugar. The current Tampa Instagram bio publishes daily hours, and the official menu lists the Tampa address and the ingredients for each dessert.

Columbia Cafe at the Tampa Bay History Center

Downtown · cuban, spanish

The Hernandez and Gonzmart family put a Columbia on the ground floor of the Tampa Bay History Center, so the Riverwalk has a table serving the recipes the Ybor City original has run since 1905. The patio is canopy covered and sits on the water in the Water Street neighborhood, beside the downtown arena. The menu is the family's Spanish and Cuban standards, the 1905 Salad, Cuban sandwiches, paella, ropa vieja and croquetas, with flan, churros and guava cheesecake after. Dishes are credited to founder Casimiro Hernandez Sr. and to great-grandmother Carmen Hernandez.

Corner Club

Seminole Heights

Corner Club runs as a coffee shop and a bar out of the same room on Sligh Avenue, with drip, cold brew and espresso on one menu and beer, wine and cocktails on another, plus a short list of snacks like pretzel and PBR beer cheese and lemon garlic hummus. It keeps zero-proof versions of its own cocktails on the list. Creative Loafing has described it as the neighbourhood dive bar, known for cheap beer.

Fat Beet Farm Kitchen and Bakery

farm to table, sandwiches, bakery

Fat Beet Farm is a working farm on West Hillsborough Avenue with a kitchen and bakery on the property, founded by Jen and Tim Curci in 2013 on what they describe as a ragged piece of coastal Florida land. Vegetables are grown in greenhouses on site, cooked in the kitchen and returned to the soil: scraps go through composting and a bio-digester built with the University of South Florida that turns food waste into fertiliser slurry, with rainwater harvesting and an on-site solar grid behind the rest. The counter serves sandwiches, biscuits, fried chicken and baked goods, and the farm runs tours, workshops, markets and volunteer days. It is the only venue in the Tampa Bay area holding a MICHELIN Green Star, awarded in the 2026 statewide Florida selection.

Filipiniana Philippine Cafe

West Tampa · filipino, bakery, boba

Filipiniana is a cafeteria-style Filipino cafe and bakeshop in a strip plaza on Waters Avenue, where you point at what you want from a hot food counter and then work out how much of the bakery case you can carry home. The hot side runs dinuguan, lechon kawali, kare kare, menudo, palabok and sisig; the bakery side has ube macapuno cake, ensaymada, mamon, cheese rolls and cheese cupcakes. It makes halo halo daily, along with maiz con yelo built on homemade corn ice cream, taho, sago at gulaman and boba. That's So Tampa filed it under hidden gems and said it may have the best baked goods in the city.

Grassroots Kava House

Ybor City · $ · kava, coffee, tea

Grassroots is a kava house on East 6th Avenue in Ybor City serving Vanuatu kava, locally roasted coffee, kratom, herbal teas, kombucha and hand-crafted natural sodas. It is built for sitting still: free wifi for remote work, a shelf of board games, and a room that runs from morning coffee through to a late hangout. Its own words for the place are that every visit feels like home, and that it is more than a cafe. The kitchen side is small, and the food that is there is deliberately vegan and gluten free friendly.

Graze 1910

Tampa Heights · american, breakfast

Graze 1910 is the all-day breakfast counter in the Heights Public Market at Armature Works, and its name carries the building's street number. The plates are waffles, egg dishes, gourmet toasts and burgers, which the building describes as refined American comfort food, and the seats look out over the river and the downtown skyline.

HaleLife Bakery & Bistro

Palma Ceia · bakery, vegan, breakfast

HaleLife is a bakery and bistro on South Dale Mabry Highway whose whole kitchen is built around food restrictions rather than around a diet trend. Its own South Tampa page states the rule plainly: 100% Gluten-Free, Vegan, & Allergy Friendly. The kitchen is dedicated free from gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts other than coconut, and shellfish, traced down to the manufacturer, and the company says it has had no reported reactions since opening in 2017. The board runs to beignets, cinnamon rolls, donuts, breakfast tacos, pizza and cakes. USA Today named it a top gluten free bakery in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

King Corona Cigars Cafe & Bar

Ybor City · cuban, sandwiches, coffee

King Corona has been on Seventh Avenue since 1998, which by Ybor City standards makes it a newcomer and by everyone else's standards makes it a fixture. The Ybor room pairs a full bar and a walk-in humidor with Cuban coffee and sandwiches, and the sidewalk tables are one of the standard places to sit and watch Seventh Avenue. The house also rolls its own small-batch cigars under the Dulzura Farms name. A second Ybor site, King Corona 1902, is announced for November 2026: twelve thousand square feet on Seventh Avenue with a members-only floor and a balcony over the district.

La Segunda Bakery

V.M. Ybor · cuban, bakery

La Segunda was founded in 1915 and still bakes on North 15th Street in V.M. Ybor, just north of the Ybor City historic district. Its own site counts '110+ Years of Family Tradition' and says the business 'started in a small Ybor City bakery'. The bakery says it turns out '18,000+ Loaves Baked Daily', which is why so much of Tampa's Cuban bread, and most of the city's Cuban sandwiches, trace back to this one address. There are now several counters around Tampa Bay, but 2512 N 15th St is the original bake house.

La Teresita

West Tampa · cuban, spanish

La Teresita has been cooking Cuban food on West Columbus Drive in West Tampa for more than fifty years, run by the Capdevila family, who give their name to a page of the site and to the Capdevila Group. The kitchen opens at six in the morning, which is a West Tampa habit rather than a restaurant trend, and the site describes 'delicious homemade Cuban and Spanish dishes'. Alongside the restaurant the family runs a ballroom and a catering operation used for quinces, weddings and parties.

Late Start Brewing

Downtown · american

Late Start runs three ways out of one downtown room: locally roasted coffee and a breakfast menu with a Mexican twist in the morning, smashburgers and breakfast tacos through the day, and beer brewed on site all of it. The taps carry its own IPAs and stouts plus a rotating selection from other local and regional breweries, and there is a short wine list. Coffee service stops at 2pm on weekdays and noon at weekends.

Oxford Exchange

Hyde Park · new american, coffee, tea

The building went up in 1891 across the street from Henry B. Plant's Tampa Bay Hotel, held an arcade of local shops from the 1920s, then sat empty for decades until the century-old brickwork was restored. Brother and sister Blake Casper and Allison Adams reopened it as Oxford Exchange on September 24, 2012, and Casper's line for how it started is that it started with a bookstore and an office. Under one roof now are the restaurant, the bookstore and shop, a coffee bar, the TeBella Tea Bar, a champagne bar, the Commerce Club membership workspace, and the OE Studio and podcast room. The design takes its cue from the old London clubs and shops, and the stated intent was a place to belong.

Phoenix Lebanese Restaurant

Temple Terrace · lebanese, middle eastern

Phoenix opened on N 56th Street in Temple Terrace in early 2025 cooking Lebanese breakfast and brunch, which is a rarer thing in Tampa than Lebanese dinner. The kitchen works saj bread on a domed griddle, thin and crisp, filled with cheese and topped with za'atar, and serves it with a house Mosaic Hummus; the same bread carries their Lebanese-style pizza. Balila, slow-cooked chickpeas with olive oil, lemon, garlic and cumin finished with pine nuts and parsley, is the heartiest thing on the menu, and the shakshuka is seasoned their own way. The owners make a point of the coffee: in Lebanon, they told That's So Tampa, offering a guest a freshly brewed cup is a ritual of friendship and respect, and they keep it.

Plant Life

plant-based, gluten-free, breakfast

Plant Life is a plant-based, gluten-free kitchen on Henderson Boulevard serving breakfast, bowls, sandwiches and prepared meals. It also supplies food at Urban Jungalow on West Cass Street, where its menu sits beside SOHO Juice Co. That relationship matters because Tampa guides often list the brands as separate restaurants without telling you that two of them can be found inside the same North Hyde Park cafe.

Psomi

North Hyde Park · greek, bakery

Psomi is a daytime Greek restaurant and bakery on North Howard Avenue, named for the Greek word for bread. Its own site puts that at the centre of the place: 'bread is the cornerstone of every meal at psomi, it's where every meal starts and how every dish is built.' The kitchen advertises itself as a seed oil free establishment and runs a small market called Parea alongside the restaurant. It has held a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections.

Ramallah Market

Temple Terrace · palestinian, middle eastern, bakery

Ramallah Market has anchored N 56th Street in Temple Terrace for years as a Middle Eastern grocery with its own in-store bakery, turning out knafeh, baklava and ma'amoul alongside fresh produce and spices. In May 2026 the family that runs it opened a cafe inside the shop called Sufrat Ramallah, which translates as the table of Ramallah, serving a full traditional Palestinian breakfast spread with ingredients imported from Palestine and homemade halal dishes. The coffee comes from Barakah Beans, an Orlando Arabic coffee brand, pouring pistachio and Dubai chocolate lattes. The market's own site describes the whole thing as 'a story of tradition, family, and delicious Middle Eastern flavors.'

SOHO Juice Co

North Hyde Park · $ · juice, acai, smoothies

SOHO Juice Co makes superfood acai bowls, smoothies, waffles and soft serve, and it now operates out of Urban Jungalow on West Cass Street rather than the South Howard Avenue address it is still listed under in older guides. TAMPA Magazine's downtown vegan and vegetarian guide describes the whole operation as entirely vegan. It trades under Everwell Hospitality.

Soul de Cuba Cafe

Seminole Heights · cuban

Soul de Cuba opened on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights and cooks from what it calls authentic family recipes, built around the Cuban sandwich, slow-roasted lechon and Sunday brunch. The kitchen puts on themed evenings rather than just service, including a Taste of Havana plate of ropa vieja, lechon asado, arroz moro, beef empanada and platanos maduros, and an Evening in Havana night of Cuban food, music and stories. There is a bar, a patio and catering for celebrations and corporate events.

Supernatural Food & Wine

Downtown · sandwiches

Supernatural Food & Wine is a small daytime counter on East Polk Street in downtown Tampa, built around sandwiches at breakfast and lunch with a short list of sides and salads and wine alongside. That's So Tampa calls it the city's hotspot for sourdough donuts and breakfast sandwiches. It has been a MICHELIN Recommended entry in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections.

The Independent Bar & Cafe

Seminole Heights · european, sandwiches, gastropub, american, bar food

The Independent has been the beer bar of Seminole Heights for about fifteen years, a European-inspired pub on North Florida Avenue with a cafe attached that serves the same kitchen menu plus coffee and baked goods. The draft list is built from imported and American craft beer, and the kitchen runs from Bavarian brat platters to tempeh reubens. Visit Tampa Bay records 50 seats indoors and a total capacity of 150 with the outdoor space, and lists live music, gallery openings and beer and wine events as the regular calendar. The bar stays open to 1am at weekends, which in this stretch of Seminole Heights is unusual.

Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.

Three Coins Diner

Seminole Heights · american, diner, greek, breakfast

Three Coins is open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, on North Nebraska Avenue at the top of Seminole Heights, and it has been doing that long enough to be the default answer to where to eat at three in the morning in Tampa. The breakfast menu runs around the clock, so late-night French toast is a normal order. Beyond breakfast the counter does a Reuben, a gyro on pita, a BLT and a fried chicken plate, at diner speed and diner prices.

Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.

Trip's Diner

Seminole Heights · $ · american, diner, breakfast

Trips Diner opened on March 12, 2012 on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights and is named after the owners' triplets, Libby, Will and John. Its own description of itself is modest on purpose: a not-too-fancy neighbourhood restaurant that offers a variety of simple food. Breakfast is served all day, alongside salads, sandwiches, meatloaf, pasta and chicken. The family also runs diners in St. Petersburg and Seminole, which are in Pinellas County and out of this site's scope.

WeVegan Cafe

vegan, coffee, bakery, breakfast

WeVegan Cafe sits on South Manhattan Avenue in Interbay, and its owners Sandra Carson and Effren Denson are Tampa natives who grew up in that neighbourhood. The business started because they went plant based and could not find a vegan cookie they actually enjoyed, so they worked on their own recipe until they had one they loved. They sold the first batch at a farmer's market in November 2017, which grew into a wholesale business supplying vegan cookies and breads to coffee shops and delis around the bay, then an online retail operation when Covid hit the restaurant industry, and finally this cafe. It serves craft coffee, homemade baked goods and hot and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch seven days a week.

West Tampa Sandwich Shop

West Tampa · cuban, sandwiches

The West Tampa Sandwich Shop calls itself the "Home of the original honey cuban sandwich", and the honey is the local argument: a Cuban sandwich of ham, roast pork, pickles and mustard with honey added, pressed on fresh Cuban bread. It opens at six in the morning and closes at three in the afternoon, six days a week, which is a working West Tampa schedule rather than a restaurant one. It sits on North Armenia Avenue in the middle of West Tampa, the other cigar-era neighbourhood, and it is one of the shops That\u0027s So Tampa puts on its list of the top Cuban sandwiches in the city.

Wright's Gourmet House

Palma Ceia · sandwiches, deli, bakery

Wright's opened on 20 April 1963, started by Marjorie and Pete Wright, who thought Tampa needed a gourmet shop. It has stayed on South Dale Mabry ever since as a counter-service deli, bakery and caterer, and it is the sandwich most long-time Tampa residents name first. Breads run to pumpernickel, rye, whole wheat, buttercrust white, onion rolls, wraps and Cuban. It closes on Sundays and shuts at 5:30 on weekdays, which tells you it is a lunch house, not a dinner one.
