South MacDill restaurant, bar and arcade from a Tampa hospitality group. Publishes Bucs and Gators schedules, NFL and college football all season, and Premier League on weekends. Says it has 80 TVs.
220 East sits on Davis Boulevard in the small village strip at the top of Davis Islands, and its own site calls it a locally owned American kitchen 24 years strong. The menu runs wider than most neighbourhood rooms: shrimp and grits, a hand-cut New York strip, pizzas including a dill-pickle one the site tells you to trust it on, and a weekend brunch with chicken and waffles. Its Cuban sandwich is built on Cuban bread from La Segunda, which it names on the menu. Several dishes are marked GF on the menu itself.
7th + Grove sits on East Seventh Avenue in Ybor City and describes itself as the flagship of the 7th + Grove Hospitality group. The cooking is Southern comfort food crossed with Guyanese flavours, served with what the site calls creatively crafted cocktails, and the room runs late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is one of the Ybor rooms Creative Loafing Tampa Bay lists among Tampa Bay's restaurants, and it leans into events... a Saturday day party with hookahs and small bites, NFL Sundays, private parties and catering.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
Al's cooks Tennessee-style barbecue in Ybor City, dry-rubbed ribs smoked over wood with a tomato-based sauce, and it has won best barbecue in Tampa more times than anyone bothers to count. The food is family food in the literal sense, with dishes on the menu named for the people they came from ... Uncle John's smoked sausage, Aunt Nita's black eyed peas, Sparky's pulled pork, Mazie's serve-it-up yellow rice and chicken. The business started as a concession stand in 2003 and became a sit-down restaurant in 2009, and it now runs barbecue and soul food out of one address on East Seventh Avenue after folding the two shops together.

Good places to eat and drink in Tampa, minus the nightclubs. When a spot gets loud later or draws a lot of kids, the card tells you.

Angry Chair is a Seminole Heights brewery known well beyond Tampa for big pastry stouts, but its own line about itself is about the name: everybody has an angry chair, work or traffic or whatever, and the beer is the getting away from it. The brewery says it does not always brew to style and calls its beers forward thinking, then notes drily that it won a gold medal for its pilsner, so it can follow the rules if it wants to. The taproom is on North Florida Avenue, has its own food menu and takes private event bookings.
Armature Works is a 1910 streetcar barn on the Hillsborough River in Tampa Heights, rebuilt into the Heights Public Market with close to twenty independent food counters under one roof. Above the market are private event rooms and Rooftop 220, which looks back at the downtown skyline. The lawn outside it runs down to the Riverwalk, and Creative Loafing lists it as a kid stop for the giant chess boards and the family events it runs through the week. Chill Bros keeps an ice cream counter inside.
Ash is the modern Italian room chef Ferrell Alvarez and Chon Nguyen's Proper House Group opened in Water Street Tampa. Alvarez sums up the room as fancy, but approachable fancy: pasta made in house, ingredients sourced close, happy hour from 5 to 7 every night and walk-ins always welcome. The signature plate is the lumache alla vodka with guanciale and parmesan, which the kitchen says is the most requested dish on the menu. Private dining runs from a chef's table for four up to a full buyout, and the site points out it is a short walk from the arena and a reasonable option before a show at the Straz Center.
BarrieHaus is a lager house in Ybor City built on a family brewing line the owners trace back 150 years, and it pours many of its beers through Czech side pull faucets imported from the Czech Republic. The 5,000 square foot space holds a wrap around copper bartop, an indoor taproom, a small room they call the Den and an outdoor Biergarten. Its Vienna lager Family Tradition took a 2022 World Beer Cup gold and the Czech-style pilsner Bublina took another in 2024. Well behaved leashed dogs are welcome outside.
Bernini has been on the corner of Seventh Avenue and 17th Street in Ybor City for more than thirty years, cooking Italian food with a Gulf accent ... pistachio crusted grouper, eggplant in house made pomodoro, crispy duck with a chianti demi-glace. Owner Jason Fernandez is a fourth generation Tampa native who runs the Historic Hospitality group in Ybor City and got his first restaurant lessons from his neighbour Adela Gonzmart of the Columbia. His great-grandfather Jesus Fernandez tended bar in Tampa in the early 1900s. Fernandez went away to work with Ella Brennan at Commander's Palace in New Orleans and later with Wolfgang Puck before coming home to Ybor.
Cigar City Brewing is named for Ybor City's cigar industry and has brewed on West Spruce Street since 2009. Its own site calls the Spruce Street brewery and taproom 'CCB's home base since batch number one', and says the beers are 'steeped in the unique culture and history of Tampa'. Jai Alai IPA, the beer it is best known for, takes its name from the Basque game the Ybor and West Tampa social clubs played. The taproom pours exclusive draft beer inside the working brewery and has its own food menu.
Casimiro Hernandez, Sr. opened the Columbia Saloon on December 17, 1903, and it became the Columbia Restaurant in 1905. It is still run by his descendants, now into the fourth and fifth generations ... Richard Gonzmart, Casey Gonzmart Sr., Andrea Gonzmart Williams and Casey Gonzmart Jr. The Ybor City original has grown from a corner saloon into 15 dining rooms across an entire city block, 52,000 square feet with seating for up to 1,700, and the company calls it the largest Spanish restaurant in the world. Flamenco is performed during dinner, with seatings at 5:30, 6 or 6:30pm for the 7pm show Monday through Saturday and 8:30 or 9pm seatings for a second 9:30pm show on Friday and Saturday.
Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.
Coppertail brews inside a historic industrial building on East Second Avenue in Ybor City, a 34,000 square foot production brewery with a five vessel brewhouse and more than 1,000 barrels of fermentation capacity. The two-story Tap Room and Kitchen sits in front of it, with exposed brick and steel, a second-storey loft that looks toward downtown, and a patio. The kitchen smokes its own meats and makes its own sausages, and the taps carry Coppertail beer alongside Fallen Fruit Hard Cider and High Dive THC Seltzer. The brewery also runs tours and keeps a live music and events calendar.

District South sits on South Dale Mabry and tells its own origin plainly: a group of friends could not find a place in South Tampa that put quality cooking, handcrafted cocktails and a warm room together, so they built one. The room splits between cosy dining space and an outdoor patio, with a bar that the restaurant describes as the lively end of it. It publishes separate lunch, dinner, brunch, happy hour, dessert and late night menus, which is a lot of service windows for a neighbourhood restaurant.
Elevage is the restaurant inside the Epicurean Hotel on South Howard, directly across the street from Bern's Steak House, whose group helped create the hotel with Mainsail Lodging. It serves from 7 in the morning, running brunch into mid-afternoon, then a lite bites window, then dinner to 10. Valet is free before 7 PM and 10 dollars after. It was in the 2025 Florida MICHELIN Guide as Recommended and is not in the 2026 selection, so it carries no Michelin designation now.
Gaspar's Grotto sits on Seventh Avenue in the middle of Ybor City and builds its whole identity on Jose Gaspar, the legendary Gulf pirate Tampa throws Gasparilla for every January. Its own site says the bar pays homage to the legendary local pirate Jose Gaspar and celebrates Tampa's immigrant past. There is an indoor bar and dining room plus two outdoor patios with live entertainment weekly, and Sunday brunch has become the thing it is known for. The bar also runs a pig roast, a VIP bottle lounge, weddings and its own Ybor Gift Company merchandise shop.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
Gasparilla started distilling in Ybor City in 2018 and calls itself the oldest rum distillery in Tampa, working from Florida sugarcane molasses and leaning all the way into the Jose Gaspar pirate story the city celebrates every January. The cocktail bar pours its own rum, vodka and gin, and the distillery runs tastings and tours of the production floor alongside private events. It calls its spirits farm to bar top.
Henderson's is the neighbourhood bar next door to The Blind Goat on Henderson Boulevard. Its website is gone, and its own Instagram now goes by Henderson Live and calls the room an entertainment bar in South Tampa, with open mic night every Monday at 7 p.m. The newest post we could date is from 19 September 2026.
Hidden Springs opened to the public on 18 September 2015, but the first beer was made in the garage of Josh and Jacqui Garman after Josh's mother Marsha gave them a Mr. Beer kit one Christmas. She died soon after, and the brewery still tells that story. It is family owned and run, on Franklin Street in Tampa Heights, and the tasting room is bookable. Its manifesto is printed on the site: 'Hidden Springs is a place where we abide no hatred and exist to create community, great tastes, and connections.'
Jekyll is a hidden cocktail room in Hyde Park built on the split-personality conceit, with plush velvet seating, dim light and drinks that are as much performance as pour. The house signature, 'Lost in Translation', is brewed and smoked at the table. The soundtrack runs to nostalgic hip hop and rap rather than lounge jazz. It also runs themed high tea seatings with a full afternoon service made by its own pastry kitchen, which sell out fast. Jekyll is the sister bar to Ciro's Speakeasy, which closed in 2026.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
LALA gives SoHo a built-in activity instead of another stand-and-talk bar. Book one of eight themed private karaoke rooms or use the open mic in the main room. Tampa hours reach 3am Thursday through Saturday, and the late-night menu runs until 2am Friday and Saturday.
This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
La Teresita has been cooking Cuban food on West Columbus Drive in West Tampa for more than fifty years, run by the Capdevila family, who give their name to a page of the site and to the Capdevila Group. The kitchen opens at six in the morning, which is a West Tampa habit rather than a restaurant trend, and the site describes 'delicious homemade Cuban and Spanish dishes'. Alongside the restaurant the family runs a ballroom and a catering operation used for quinces, weddings and parties.
M.Bird is the rooftop lounge over Armature Works, four floors up from the food hall, with the Hillsborough River on one side and the downtown skyline on the other. The room is done in an art deco key and the kitchen sends out shareable plates, listed on its own site as Caribbean, American and small plates, alongside tropical cocktails. DJs work the deck and the space takes groups and private events.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
The newer and larger of Magnanimous's two Tampa taprooms, on the corner of Sligh and Nebraska, with 24 rotating taps and a room built for sticking around: classic arcade games and pinball, cornhole, board games, a projector with sound for games, a covered outdoor patio and a free parking lot. Sliceadelic Wizard Pizza parks there Tuesday through Sunday. The brewery says this is where most of its events and live music happen.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
Malio Iavarone opened Malio's in 1969, and his own site traces the kitchen back further than that, to the restaurant his immigrant parents ran from 1945. More than fifty years on it is still the room Tampa books for the night that matters, now downtown in Rivergate Tower on Ashley Drive with the river out the window. Prime steaks, seafood and cocktails, with private event space and catering on the same floor.
Dunderbak's has been serving Tampa since 1974 and sits in the Oak Ramble Shopping Center on Bruce B Downs, which is a plain strip plaza and exactly the point: this is a German beer hall, brewery, deli and European market behind a strip-mall storefront. It started as one of about 30 franchise locations nationally, and co-owners James and Christina Ellis bought this one in the 1990s; the franchise folded and they turned it into a brewery with a dozen or so house beers on tap, told to That's So Tampa. The kitchen cooks from family recipes, with the potato pancakes made fresh every morning from James's Oma's recipe and the coleslaw from his mother's. Live polka plays on weekends, the beer hall room on the left seats 32 for private bookings, and the site's own parking advice is to arrive by 6pm on a Friday if you want a space.
Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.
The building went up in 1891 across the street from Henry B. Plant's Tampa Bay Hotel, held an arcade of local shops from the 1920s, then sat empty for decades until the century-old brickwork was restored. Brother and sister Blake Casper and Allison Adams reopened it as Oxford Exchange on September 24, 2012, and Casper's line for how it started is that it started with a bookstore and an office. Under one roof now are the restaurant, the bookstore and shop, a coffee bar, the TeBella Tea Bar, a champagne bar, the Commerce Club membership workspace, and the OE Studio and podcast room. The design takes its cue from the old London clubs and shops, and the stated intent was a place to belong.
Pane Rustica is a bakery and restaurant on South MacDill that its own site describes as 'serving South Tampa for 26 years'. It runs as a single room where the bakery counter and the dining room share the same space, and it does its own wholesale baking alongside the restaurant. The kitchen also handles catering and private events out of the same address.
Renzo's moved its original Tampa steakhouse into a new South Howard room with an Argentine wine and spirits program built for this location. Choose it for Malbec, dinner, and a slower start to the night. It closes at 9pm Monday through Thursday, 10pm Friday and Saturday, and 8pm Sunday.
Restaurant BT is chef BT Nguyen's flagship on South MacDill Avenue in Palma Ceia, the fine dining half of a pair that also includes Bistro BT on Henderson Boulevard and BT To Go. Nguyen cooks French-influenced Vietnamese food drawn from the kitchen she grew up in, and her work has been covered by Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure and Food Network's Emeril's Florida. Mondays are kept for private dinners only. It has been MICHELIN Recommended in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections.
The Bricks opened in 2010 at the corner of East Seventh Avenue and North 14th Street, which Ybor City also calls Avenida Republica de Cuba. It was started by a local team in partnership with the Skate Park of Tampa, and the idea was a hangout for skaters, artists and musicians rather than a bar chasing the Seventh Avenue club crowd. There are two performance spaces ... an open-air courtyard and a small Cafe Stage that overlooks the bar and the front windows ... and most shows are listed with no cover.

The Independent has been the beer bar of Seminole Heights for about fifteen years, a European-inspired pub on North Florida Avenue with a cafe attached that serves the same kitchen menu plus coffee and baked goods. The draft list is built from imported and American craft beer, and the kitchen runs from Bavarian brat platters to tempeh reubens. Visit Tampa Bay records 50 seats indoors and a total capacity of 150 with the outdoor space, and lists live music, gallery openings and beer and wine events as the regular calendar. The bar stays open to 1am at weekends, which in this stretch of Seminole Heights is unusual.
Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.
The RITZ is the big room on Seventh Avenue, a 1917 theatre that has been a cinema, a church and a nightclub and now runs as Ybor City's main concert hall under Sunset Events. It takes VIP table reservations and runs a guest list, and the same company puts on Sunset on the River and Holiday Riverfest. With Crowbar closed since August 2026, it is the largest live music room left in the district.
This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
The Sapphire opened in May 2026 near the stadium as a supper club built on the 1950s idea of one: dinner, a band and a late night in the same room. Its own writing promises live bands, DJs and tableside flair alongside the cooking, with private dining suites bookable from 11 in the morning even though the main room does not open until 6 in the evening. On Friday and Saturday it runs to 3 AM, which makes it one of the few rooms in this part of the city with genuinely late posted hours.
This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
A wine bar on the Seventh Avenue strip that sells itself as a neighbourhood room rather than a nightlife stop, with small plates alongside the list and staff who are expected to talk you through it. It runs a weekly Wine Society gathering at 7pm on Wednesdays and four tiers of wine club membership. The site also advertises franchise opportunities.
