1983

South MacDill restaurant, bar and arcade from a Tampa hospitality group. Publishes Bucs and Gators schedules, NFL and college football all season, and Premier League on weekends. Says it has 80 TVs.

220 East

Davis Islands · new american, seafood, pizza

220 East sits on Davis Boulevard in the small village strip at the top of Davis Islands, and its own site calls it a locally owned American kitchen 24 years strong. The menu runs wider than most neighbourhood rooms: shrimp and grits, a hand-cut New York strip, pizzas including a dill-pickle one the site tells you to trust it on, and a weekend brunch with chicken and waffles. Its Cuban sandwich is built on Cuban bread from La Segunda, which it names on the menu. Several dishes are marked GF on the menu itself.

7th + Grove

Ybor City · southern, caribbean, guyanese

7th + Grove sits on East Seventh Avenue in Ybor City and describes itself as the flagship of the 7th + Grove Hospitality group. The cooking is Southern comfort food crossed with Guyanese flavours, served with what the site calls creatively crafted cocktails, and the room runs late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is one of the Ybor rooms Creative Loafing Tampa Bay lists among Tampa Bay's restaurants, and it leans into events... a Saturday day party with hookahs and small bites, NFL Sundays, private parties and catering.

Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.

Al's Finger Licking Good Bar-B-Que & Soul Food

Ybor City · $ · bbq, southern, soul food

Al's cooks Tennessee-style barbecue in Ybor City, dry-rubbed ribs smoked over wood with a tomato-based sauce, and it has won best barbecue in Tampa more times than anyone bothers to count. The food is family food in the literal sense, with dishes on the menu named for the people they came from ... Uncle John's smoked sausage, Aunt Nita's black eyed peas, Sparky's pulled pork, Mazie's serve-it-up yellow rice and chicken. The business started as a concession stand in 2003 and became a sit-down restaurant in 2009, and it now runs barbecue and soul food out of one address on East Seventh Avenue after folding the two shops together.

Ash

Downtown · $$ · italian

Ash is the modern Italian room chef Ferrell Alvarez and Chon Nguyen's Proper House Group opened in Water Street Tampa. Alvarez sums up the room as fancy, but approachable fancy: pasta made in house, ingredients sourced close, happy hour from 5 to 7 every night and walk-ins always welcome. The signature plate is the lumache alla vodka with guanciale and parmesan, which the kitchen says is the most requested dish on the menu. Private dining runs from a chef's table for four up to a full buyout, and the site points out it is a short walk from the arena and a reasonable option before a show at the Straz Center.

Big Ray's Fish Camp

Ballast Point & Interbay · seafood

Big Ray's Fish Camp is a small seafood counter on Interbay Boulevard in South Tampa. Chef Raymond 'Nick' Cruz traces it back to Ballast Point Pier, a few minutes away: his own site says 'spending countless summer days fishing, cleaning, and cooking said fish on the line, would eventually turn into a personal passion to serve the best and freshest seafood in South Tampa.' It has been a MICHELIN Recommended restaurant since the 2025 Florida selection and kept that place in 2026.

Bistro BT

Westshore · french, vietnamese

Bistro BT is the casual neighbourhood half of chef BT Nguyen's pair of Tampa restaurants, on Henderson Boulevard in South Tampa. The menu sets French classics such as coq au vin and duck confit next to Vietnamese bun, pho and banh mi. Nguyen's cooking started in Vietnam, where the restaurant's own history says she 'spent hours in her family's kitchen, watching her relatives prepare the simple yet elegant dishes' that became the restaurant's food, and her work has been covered by Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure and Food Network's Emeril's Florida. It has been in the MICHELIN Guide since 2022 and is Recommended in the 2026 Florida selection.

Dang Dude

Channel District · $ · asian, dumplings, noodles

Dang Dude is the Asian street food counter Proper House Group runs at Sparkman Wharf, a few doors from its own Gallito Taqueria. The board is dumplings, noodles, street snacks and boba, priced as a walk-up rather than a sit-down. It comes from the same group chef Ferrell Alvarez and Chon Nguyen founded in 2013, which also runs Rooster & the Till and the Water Street pair, Ash and Alter Ego.

Ebbe

Downtown · $$$$ · nordic, scandinavian, new american

Ebbe is a counter restaurant on North Franklin Street where Chef Ebbe Vollmer cooks a Nordic-influenced tasting menu built around East Coast ingredients. The kitchen runs two set menus, a Discovery menu at $225 and a Prestige menu at $340, and the courses change with what arrives that week. It has held one MICHELIN star in every Florida selection since 2024, including the 2026 statewide selection. The site posts no telephone number and no service hours ... reservations are the only way in.

Ebisu Sushi Shack

Seminole Heights · sushi

Ebisu Sushi Shack is a very small sushi room on North Nebraska Avenue, and it calls itself the 'Seminole Heights One & Only Original Sushi Spot'. It opens only for dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, and runs a Specials Board alongside its named rolls such as the Orange Sunrise and the Volcano. The building really is a shack, which is part of why it books out.

Gallito Taqueria

Channel District · mexican, tacos

Gallito is the taqueria that chef Ferrell Alvarez's Proper House Group runs in the container row at Sparkman Wharf, on the water in the Channel District. The board is street tacos, quesabirria, puffy tacos and antojitos, which the group describes as fresh, bold Mexican street food. Proper House was founded in 2013 by Alvarez and Chon Nguyen, the same partnership behind Rooster & the Till in Seminole Heights and Ash and Alter Ego on Water Street, and a second Gallito now runs at The Joinery in Lakeland.

JoToro

Channel District · mexican, tacos

JoToro sits on the corner of Sparkman Wharf in the Channel District and describes itself as a friendly neighbourhood taco joint that happens to have a Michelin star chef. That chef is Joe Isidori, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America after his father's restaurants, cooked in Miami Beach, New York and Las Vegas, was named a StarChefs Rising Star and won the New York City Wine and Food Festival Burger Bash three times. The kitchen calls its food Fine Mexican Provisions: wood-fired tacos, knife-and-fork burritos, Mexico City style street corn and a grilled Thai watermelon feta salad, with craft margaritas and tequila flights. Visit Tampa Bay lists it for its plant-based tacos and enchiladas.

Kinjo

Hyde Park · italian, wafu italian

Kinjo opened in 2025 on South Boulevard from Eric and Adriana Fralick, the couple behind Koya and Noble Rice, serving what they call itameshi wafu Italian: 'Italian food made with Japanese sensibilities.' The room is small and the site asks for reservations, calling it 'a very intimate dining experience'. It entered the MICHELIN Guide in the 2026 Florida selection as a Recommended restaurant, and its chef, Jada Vidal, took Michelin's 2026 Young Chef Award for Florida the same day.

Kosen

Tampa Heights · sushi

Kosen is a twelve-seat omakase counter on West Palm Avenue in Tampa Heights, running a menu of more than twenty courses. The kitchen keeps an in-house fermentation program and buys from local regenerative farms, and a Japanese-inspired cocktail lounge called Tanto sits alongside the counter under a director of beverage and sustainability. It has held one MICHELIN star in every Florida selection since 2024 and displays the 2026 star on its own site. Rocca, another one star room, is a few doors along the same block.

Koya

Hyde Park · sushi

Koya is an eight-seat, tasting-menu-only room on West Platt Street in Hyde Park, run by the team behind Noble Rice. It took over the space that was Noble Rice's original Hyde Park restaurant, which was remodelled into Koya in 2020. The menu is built on shun, the Japanese idea of an ingredient at its peak, and changes month to month. It is Tampa's longest-running starred restaurant, holding one MICHELIN star in every Florida selection from 2023 through 2026.

Michael's Grill

Carrollwood · new american, italian, seafood

Michael's Grill has been on N Dale Mabry since 2000 and calls itself a neighborhood hidden Carrollwood gem, which is close to how Creative Loafing described it when it reviewed the place: a tiny restaurant tucked into a strip plaza off Dale Mabry that took the reviewer three turnarounds to find. Michael and Andrea Reilly opened it after years in the business, he as a chef in Miami restaurants for 14 years and she as a baker and pastry chef, and the review recorded the chef coming out of the kitchen in his whites to talk to tables while the dining room filled up. The menu is fresh New American standards with French and Italian classics behind it, run across lunch, dinner and a weekend brunch. The room has terra cotta floors and a bar that looks into a cramped kitchen.

Oak & Ola

Tampa Heights · new american

Oak & Ola is the sit-down dining room inside Armature Works, the restored streetcar warehouse on the Heights waterfront, and it takes its name from the two streets that meet outside. Executive chef Margaret LaVetty came up through China Grill in New York, Campanile in Los Angeles and Nemo in Miami Beach, started cooking in professional kitchens at 14 and finished at the California Culinary Academy at 19; around Tampa she picked up the nickname Captain of Crunch for her granola. Chef de cuisine Jaime Nava has worked the kitchen for close to a decade and writes the weekly dinner features. The menu is sourced and rewritten by season, and the room keeps a memorial to chef TJ Hoferichter, who died in 2024.

On Swann

Hyde Park · new american

On Swann opened on 29 May 2016 in Hyde Park Village and serves contemporary American food from a seasonal menu. Its own site says the room was built so guests can watch the cooking happen in an open kitchen, and that the interior is meant to nod to Tampa's past while matching the neighbourhood around it. The partners listed are John Cooper, Trudy Cooper, Chris Arreola, and Chris Ponte with Michelle Ponte. Ponte is the executive chef and partner: he started at Clearwater's Pepper Mill in 1991 after Johnson and Wales, then studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris on the kindness of a Pepper Mill regular and apprenticed at Taillevent.

Ponte Modern American

Midtown Tampa · new american, french, italian

Ponte Modern American sits on Gramercy Lane in the Midtown Tampa development off Westshore, from James Beard-nominated chef Chris Ponte. The kitchen melds his Parisian training with American cooking and builds the menu on locally sourced ingredients. It has been a MICHELIN Recommended restaurant in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections.

Restaurant BT

Palma Ceia · vietnamese, french

Restaurant BT is chef BT Nguyen's flagship on South MacDill Avenue in Palma Ceia, the fine dining half of a pair that also includes Bistro BT on Henderson Boulevard and BT To Go. Mondays are kept for private dinners only. It has been MICHELIN Recommended in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections.

Rooster & the Till

Seminole Heights · new american

Rooster & the Till opened on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights in 2013, co-founded by chef Ferrell Alvarez and Chon Nguyen. Its own site tells the growth story plainly: it started as 'a 37-seat restaurant with a few induction burners' and is now 'a 72 seat, award-winning establishment.' Alvarez was a 2017 James Beard Foundation semi-finalist for Best Chef South. The restaurant has taken a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand four times, including 2026, and the menu and wine list change constantly.

The Brisket Shoppe

West Tampa · bbq

The Brisket Shoppe is a Texas-style barbecue counter on North Armenia Avenue in West Tampa run by pitmaster Danny Hernandez, who smokes hand-selected Akaushi wagyu brisket daily over locally sourced oak. The board also carries heritage turkey breast, Cheshire pork ribs and house sausages, with local craft beer and wine alongside. The kitchen states its rules flatly: 'No Freezers. No Microwave. Chef Driven.' It serves Wednesday through Saturday from 11am until the meat runs out, and entered the MICHELIN Guide for the first time in the 2026 Florida selection.
