Angry Chair is a Seminole Heights brewery known well beyond Tampa for big pastry stouts, but its own line about itself is about the name: everybody has an angry chair, work or traffic or whatever, and the beer is the getting away from it. The brewery says it does not always brew to style and calls its beers forward thinking, then notes drily that it won a gold medal for its pilsner, so it can follow the rules if it wants to. The taproom is on North Florida Avenue, has its own food menu and takes private event bookings.
Over 50 Tampa: Seminole Heights
Tree-shaded bungalow streets from the early 1900s that became Tampa's independent restaurant corridor, spread across Old, South and Southeast Seminole Heights. Florida Avenue and Nebraska Avenue carry the breweries, the barbecue and the small rooms that opened here because the rent was cheap and the porches were good.
Cappy's calls itself 'Tampa's favorite pizza joint since 1995' and works out of a small room on North Florida Avenue packed with vintage signs and junk-shop decor. It is one of the few places in town making Chicago deep dish alongside New York thin crust, and the menu carries vegan options as well. It opens for dinner only, from 4pm at weekends and 5pm on weekdays.
Common Dialect was started by husband and wife Mike and Kendra Conze on the Seminole Heights stretch of Florida Avenue. The brewery says it set out to make a colourful, welcoming room rather than another minimalist industrial one, which is how most of Tampa Bay's taprooms look. There is no kitchen; rotating food trucks park there through the week.
Corner Club runs as a coffee shop and a bar out of the same room on Sligh Avenue, with drip, cold brew and espresso on one menu and beer, wine and cocktails on another, plus a short list of snacks like pretzel and PBR beer cheese and lemon garlic hummus. It keeps zero-proof versions of its own cocktails on the list. Creative Loafing has described it as the neighbourhood dive bar, known for cheap beer.
Ebisu Sushi Shack is a very small sushi room on North Nebraska Avenue, and it calls itself the 'Seminole Heights One & Only Original Sushi Spot'. It opens only for dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, and runs a Specials Board alongside its named rolls such as the Orange Sunrise and the Volcano. The building really is a shack, which is part of why it books out.
Front Porch Grille has been on North Florida Avenue since 2002, which makes it one of the longest-running independent restaurants in Seminole Heights. It works out of a converted two-storey bungalow, the kind of house the neighbourhood is built from, with Bart's Tavern as the bar side of the same operation. Weekend service starts at 8am, so it is a breakfast room as well as a dinner one, and the kitchen keeps its own daily specials and happy hour separate from the main menu.
The newer and larger of Magnanimous's two Tampa taprooms, on the corner of Sligh and Nebraska, with 24 rotating taps and a room built for sticking around: classic arcade games and pinball, cornhole, board games, a projector with sound for games, a covered outdoor patio and a free parking lot. Sliceadelic Wizard Pizza parks there Tuesday through Sunday. The brewery says this is where most of its events and live music happen.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
Rooster & the Till opened on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights in 2013, co-founded by chef Ferrell Alvarez and Chon Nguyen. Its own site tells the growth story plainly: it started as 'a 37-seat restaurant with a few induction burners' and is now 'a 72 seat, award-winning establishment.' Alvarez was a 2017 James Beard Foundation semi-finalist for Best Chef South. The restaurant has taken a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand four times, including 2026, and the menu and wine list change constantly.
Soul de Cuba opened on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights and cooks from what it calls authentic family recipes, built around the Cuban sandwich, slow-roasted lechon and Sunday brunch. The kitchen puts on themed evenings rather than just service, including a Taste of Havana plate of ropa vieja, lechon asado, arroz moro, beef empanada and platanos maduros, and an Evening in Havana night of Cuban food, music and stories. There is a bar, a patio and catering for celebrations and corporate events.
Preorder BBQ and Cubans for Friday or Saturday pickup at 5214 N Nebraska Ave in Seminole Heights, 11:30am to 3pm. Station House BBQ is firefighter-owned and also offers walk-in platters and catering for parties, weddings and corporate events.
The Independent has been the beer bar of Seminole Heights for about fifteen years, a European-inspired pub on North Florida Avenue with a cafe attached that serves the same kitchen menu plus coffee and baked goods. The draft list is built from imported and American craft beer, and the kitchen runs from Bavarian brat platters to tempeh reubens. Visit Tampa Bay records 50 seats indoors and a total capacity of 150 with the outdoor space, and lists live music, gallery openings and beer and wine events as the regular calendar. The bar stays open to 1am at weekends, which in this stretch of Seminole Heights is unusual.
Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.
The Liberty Smokehouse is a veteran-owned barbecue kitchen on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights, a few blocks up the same street from Wicked Oak. Its own site puts the military background at the centre of the place, saying that as a veteran-owned establishment it is dedicated to serving with the same pride and excellence upheld in the military. The kitchen hand makes its own pickles, sauce, rubs and brines for every item it creates, and it also runs a mobile smokehouse that sets up with breweries and venues around Tampa Bay. TAMPA Magazine listed it in the voters also loved row of its 2026 Best Barbecue results.
Three Coins is open twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, on North Nebraska Avenue at the top of Seminole Heights, and it has been doing that long enough to be the default answer to where to eat at three in the morning in Tampa. The breakfast menu runs around the clock, so late-night French toast is a normal order. Beyond breakfast the counter does a Reuben, a gyro on pita, a BLT and a fried chicken plate, at diner speed and diner prices.

Trips Diner opened on March 12, 2012 on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights and is named after the owners' triplets, Libby, Will and John. Its own description of itself is modest on purpose: a not-too-fancy neighbourhood restaurant that offers a variety of simple food. Breakfast is served all day, alongside salads, sandwiches, meatloaf, pasta and chicken. The family also runs diners in St. Petersburg and Seminole, which are in Pinellas County and out of this site's scope.
Wicked Oak Barbeque is a counter-service barbecue restaurant on North Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights, founded in 2020 according to the structured data on its own site. It smokes brisket and ribs slowly and makes its sides and sauces in house, and its own line for the neighbourhood is that it is smoking out the Heights. TAMPA Magazine named it one of the winners of Best Barbecue in its 2026 Best Restaurants list, alongside two multi-location groups, which makes it the only single-location Tampa barbecue restaurant in that winners row.
Yummy House is a Cantonese kitchen on East Hillsborough Avenue serving dim sum at lunch only, from 11am to 2:30pm, then a full dinner service. It is the Tampa room of a small Florida group that also runs Sarasota and Gainesville locations, with an Ocala site listed as relocating. The Tampa location has been MICHELIN Recommended in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections.
