Bamboozle is the Vietnamese counter downtown office workers have used for lunch for years, now in the Channel District on 12th Street. The kitchen works banh mi, rice bowls and noodle plates and describes its own line of work as bamboozling customers into healthier living for over fourteen years. A second location, Bamboozle Heights, sits up N Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights.
Over 50 Tampa: Channel District
The old port warehouse blocks between downtown and Ybor, rebuilt into high rises, patios and the Florida Aquarium. Cargo ships and cruise ships pass at the end of the street, and the dining is what grew around them: a sushi room, a taqueria, a Greek restaurant and a tavern that predates all of it.
Dang Dude is the Asian street food counter Proper House Group runs at Sparkman Wharf, a few doors from its own Gallito Taqueria. The board is dumplings, noodles, street snacks and boba, priced as a walk-up rather than a sit-down. It comes from the same group chef Ferrell Alvarez and Chon Nguyen founded in 2013, which also runs Rooster & the Till and the Water Street pair, Ash and Alter Ego.
District Tavern is the neighborhood bar of the Channel District, a block off Channelside Drive, and it is the room downtown workers and residents use when they want a kitchen open late rather than a show. Its posted hours run from late morning to three in the morning Tuesday through Saturday, which is later than almost anything else in the district.
Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.
Gallito is the taqueria that chef Ferrell Alvarez's Proper House Group runs in the container row at Sparkman Wharf, on the water in the Channel District. The board is street tacos, quesabirria, puffy tacos and antojitos, which the group describes as fresh, bold Mexican street food. Proper House was founded in 2013 by Alvarez and Chon Nguyen, the same partnership behind Rooster & the Till in Seminole Heights and Ash and Alter Ego on Water Street, and a second Gallito now runs at The Joinery in Lakeland.
JoToro sits on the corner of Sparkman Wharf in the Channel District and describes itself as a friendly neighbourhood taco joint that happens to have a Michelin star chef. That chef is Joe Isidori, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America after his father's restaurants, cooked in Miami Beach, New York and Las Vegas, was named a StarChefs Rising Star and won the New York City Wine and Food Festival Burger Bash three times. The kitchen calls its food Fine Mexican Provisions: wood-fired tacos, knife-and-fork burritos, Mexico City style street corn and a grilled Thai watermelon feta salad, with craft margaritas and tequila flights. Visit Tampa Bay lists it for its plant-based tacos and enchiladas.
Noble Rice is a modern Japanese restaurant at Sparkman Wharf on Channelside Drive, serving sushi, ramen, small plates and omakase with a bar stocked with Japanese whisky and sake. It is the second life of a Hyde Park original: its own site says this room is 'an expansion of the popular Hyde Park restaurant of the same name, which remodeled as Koya, a high-end omakase spot, in its place in 2020.' It has been a MICHELIN Recommended restaurant in both the 2025 and 2026 Florida selections, while its Hyde Park sibling Koya holds a star.
Pour House sits in the Grand Central at Kennedy building in the Channel District and works as both a small brewery and a beer and wine bar, with about forty taps running and a shared outdoor seating area with the other businesses in the complex. It has a pool table and a popcorn machine, no kitchen of its own, and food trucks the third Thursday of every month. Guests are welcome to bring food in from neighbouring restaurants.
